Carabinieri Incisa Scapaccino Asti
The anniversary of the Virgo Fidelis, patron saint of the Carabinieri, was celebrated in the church of Santa Rita da Cascia, in Piazza Santa Rita. The Prefect of Turin Renato Saccone was also present in the church. The celebration took place after the greeting of the provincial commander Emanuele De Santis, who commemorated the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Culqualber, in the Second World War. The same ceremony was celebrated in all the provinces of Italy. Incisa Scapaccino, in the Asti area, was the town chosen by Commander General Tullio del Sette, who took part in the celebrations at midday in the church of San Giovanni Battista. The historic 13-pointed flame, symbol of the Carabinieri Corps, is the monument that Del Sette inaugurated in the small town of the Asti area. The commander chose Incisa Scapaccino because the city has a symbolic value: in fact, it takes its name from the Carabiniere Giovanni Battista Scapaccino, born in Incisa in 1802 and killed in 1834 during a revolt, considered the first hero of the Carabinieri; also the church of San Giovanni Battista in Incisa was elevated to a sanctuary and dedicated to the Virgo Fidelis, the only one in Italy. “We celebrate the Virgo Fidelis in the church, already a place of pilgrimage for the Carabinieri Corps, where we find our oldest roots – said the general – For the first time we celebrate our anniversary in the church where Giovan Battista Scapaccino was baptized in 1802”. General Del Sette arrived in Asti at the end of the celebrations in Rome. He attended the celebration officiated by the Military Ordinary for Italy, Santo Marcianò. The ceremony was also attended by the Minister Enrico Costa. The monument was inaugurated in the square in front of the sanctuary.
